Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki the Japanese word for “universal life energy”. Reiki is pronounced ‘ray-key’ and its function is to help to harmonize the body, mind and spirit. Please note that Reiki should never replace medical treatment it should be used alongside medical treatment as a compliment and a way to become and remain healthy. This form of therapy uses simple techniques such as hands-on, no-touch as well as visualisation with the goal of improving the flow of life energy in a person.

Our bodies have an energy field that is central to our health and proper body functioning. The energy travels along certain pathways called meridians (see gallery image) which can become blocked or weakened – this knowledge has been known and used by Chinese and Japanese practitioners for centuries.

A Reiki practitioner is trained to detect meridian blockages and uses the universal energy passing through their hands to enable the body of the person or animal being treated to relax allowing healing to take place naturally.  It is believed that Reiki works on balancing the chakra system, which are energy centers, the seven main centers are along the middle of the body (see gallery images) and are connected with the nervous and endocrine systems as defined in Ayurvedic medicine (Eastern healing methodology).

Reiki energy adapts to the needs of the receiver promoting natural self healing, balancing the energies in the body and strengthening the immune system. Reiki can clear toxins and release blocked and suppressed feelings leading to feelings of well being.

It is reported that Reiki is a great stress reliever and can help alleviate a number of health problems eg: headaches, stomach aches, pre menstrual tension, period pains and sinus pain to name but a few.

There is no religious belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive a Reiki treatment.

As in any healing, the first step towards a healthier life is the desire to be healed.

Reiki is non-invasive and is a gentle and safe technique and has been used successfully in some hospitals by doctors, nurses, psychologists and other health professionals.

Reiki Treatment

What happens during a Reiki treatment?

The environment is a private comfortable room with relaxing background sound and fragrance.

The person having the treatment lies on a treatment table or sits in a chair fully clothed, removing shoes only.

I prefer the no touch technique. Scanning with my hands a few inches above the body, over positions where the organs and endocrine glands reside and the areas that correspond to the chakra centres, touching only the head, shoulders and the feet, relying on intuition and experience to determine which areas need the most energy healing. The energy flows wherever it is required and can be felt as a warm sensation or tingling in the body or may not be felt at all during the treatment.

Receiving Reiki is a very relaxing and soothing experience! There is no pressure on the body making it ideal for treating all ages and conditions.

A treatment takes approximately three quarters of an hour to an hour. The initial treatment requires an additional 15 minutes to enable me to complete a short registration form. ie: Name, address, telephone number and medical history.

It is recommended that those receiving Reiki for the first time, have a series of three to four initial treatments over a one or two week period, thereafter to have a treatment either monthly for a top up or as required.

Side Effects

Reiki generally has no side effects, as it is a very low impact and gentle procedure. Some people report tingling or sensations of heat or cold during a treatment. Others have reported sadness or anxiety during treatment, which could be buried or repressed emotions being released by the new energy flow and is perfectly natural and soon passes.

The only thing about you and your wonderful talent is that you are too far away from where I live (SA). I would love to be a 'regular'.

The website has a lovely relaxed feel just like a Reiki session. As a newcomer to Reiki I wasn't sure how I would feel about it, but that ability to switch off and completely relax is just amazing.
